MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE VERSUS SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Most safaris to Kenya or Tanzania always has an highlight this may either be the Masai Mara National Reserve or Serengeti National Park . Making a choice of which of the two to feature in your safari plans is difficult as they both share the same ecosystem and have similarities in landscapes and wildlife. The differences are also present and these are what makes each of the two parks diverse in their own right. Which of the two parks to choose will depend on a variety of factors and we have explored these factors which include; habitat and landscape, wildlife, best time to visit.

& Landscape
The Maasai Mara and Serengeti may share the
ecosystem the landscapes are not the same. The sizes of the two parks are
different. Serengeti is very large with an area of 14,760 square kilometers by
5700 metres square, the Masai mara is at 1510 square kilometers by 585 metres
square. Apart from the open savannah that dominates Serengeti other vegetation
such as woodland, and riverine forest are also present. Due to the vastness of the
Serengeti, the landscape changes are evident especially in the north and south
of the Serengeti.

Maasai Mara and Serengeti have wonderful
wildlife viewing. These two parks are best known for the wildebeest migration
that is between Tanzania and Kenya annually. You have a high chance of seeing the
big five on a safari circuit that includes the Masai Mara and Serengeti. The big five animals that can be spotted with ease include elephant, buffalo, leopard,lion
other animals that are not in the big five such as cheetah,giraffes can also be
spotted easily. Rhinos are not guaranteed sightings however the chances of
spotting a rhino are higher in the Mara than in the Serengeti.

Time to Go
The best time to go
to either park would be during the dry months of June to October. During this
period animals are drawn to water sources,the vegetation is scarce as well
during the dry season which makes it easy to spot animals.For the wildebeest
migration, the best time in Serengeti varies from the best time while in the
Mara this is because of the movement patterns of the wildebeest.In the
Serengeti, the best time for the wildebeest migration would have to be between
the months of January and September whereas in the Mara the best time would
have to be in the months of June to October.
